This bird lives in the American continent and can be seen in Tumbes at an altitude of between 400 and 750 metres. The blackish-headed spinetail feeds mainly on insects, has a black head and measures 14.5 cm. Its characteristic colouring is a black head, white throat and grey breast, with light brown wings with an orange band. This is an endangered species so its habitat needs to be protected.
It can be spotted all year round in the woods around the Angostura lookout point towards El Caucho Biological Station and along the trail that runs from the station to Campo Verde and Cotrina.
