For three straight years our country has received recognition in the culinary category at the “Oscars of Tourism,” as they are known the around the world. The WTA honor excellence in each sector of the tourism industry around the globe, including products and travel services.
It all began in 2012, when Peru received accolades at a WTA ceremony held in New Delhi, the capital of India. At that event, our country was crowned in first place, over and above countries such as China, France, Italy, Spain, the United States, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, India and Mexico.
Second consecutive success
Returning to the success achieved in 2012, Peru was voted World’s Best Culinary Destination Worldfor the second time running in 2013. This time, the ceremony was held at the La Cigale Hotel in Doha, capital of Qatar. The WTA felt that our country had once again displayed the characteristics needed to top this prestigious list.
On this occasion, which was also the 20th World Travel Awards, Peru came in above countries like Australia, Italy, Spain, Malaysia, Japan, France, Thailand, China, India, Mexico and the United States. Furthermore, it achieved this after being crowned Best Culinary Destination in South America, which earned its spot in the final vote.
Award in 2014
As if that wasn’t enough, this year, for the third time in a row, our country won the distinction of the best place in the world where cuisine is being developed. The development that this sector has experienced in recent years means the awards won by Peruvian cuisine continue to bring us huge satisfaction.
This year’s awards ceremony for the tourism sector was held on the Caribbean island of Anguilla. Peru once again defeated the best countries in the world in this category. This achievement was even highlighted by Magali Silva, Minister of Tourism and Foreign Trade. "These accolades not only put us in the international spotlight, they also motivate us to achieve excellence," she said.
