Day 2

Chiclayo / Visit to the Pómac Forest, Sicán Museum and Túcume Pyramids with Huaca Las Balsas. In the morning, visit to Pómac Forest, located 22 miles north of Chiclayo, this incredible place is known for its enormous carob trees and is located in Bata Grande, an old sugar plantation. There are dozens of pyramids belonging to the Sicán culture, descendants of the Mochica. Note that this is not the same as the archaeological site of Sipán. The Sicán culture was an ancient civilization that developed in northern Peru between 800 and 1300 AD. The site was first excavated in 1978 by Japanese archaeologist Izumi Shimada, but it was not until 1992 that the tomb of a member of the Sicán elite society was discovered. Approximately 1.2 tons of precious metals such as jewelry and religious articles were extracted from this archaeological site and are now housed in the Sicán National Museum. The Sicán Museum is located in Ferreñafe, approximately 12 miles (25 minutes) from the city of Chiclayo, continuing along the road that leads to the Pómac Forest Historic Sanctuary. Various events of the daily life of the Sicán culture are observed in the Sicán National Museum, including how they worked with ceramics and metals, and the tombs of the Sicán nobility that were discovered are exhibited.

Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit to Túcume, an imposing complex of 26 pyramids from the Lambayeque culture. Afterwards, a visit to Huaca Las Balsas, a small hill located at the southwest end of the complex with several construction phases superimposed, all decorated with magnificent wall paintings and beautiful reliefs with mythical motifs. This place is also associated with a residential and domestic sector that included a kitchen, bedrooms and corridors.

Day 3

Chiclayo, Visit to Huaca Rajada and Royal Tombs of the Lord of Sipán Museum. Your tour will start at the archaeological complex of Huaca Rajada. This is a set of huge adobe pyramids partially destroyed over the course of several centuries by the climate. The site gained special notoriety in 1987 when Dr. Walter Alva, then director of the Brüning Museum in Lambayeque, became aware of clandestine excavations that had been taking place. And what then began as a protection plan ended up as the magnificent discovery of the tomb of the Lord of Sipán, one of Peru's most impressive pre-Columbian burials. You will also visit the site museum before being transferred back to the hotel.

Lunch at a local restaurant included. In the afternoon, visit to the brand-new Royal Tombs Museum where you will discover the historical richness of the place. This is one of the most spectacular museums of the Americas, named after the world-famous burial discovered in an ancient adobe pyramid. The six million dollar museum contains the greatest gold artifacts found in the Americas. The museum is shaped like the pre-Columbian pyramid where Peruvian archaeologists discovered this wonderful tomb in 1987.
