The good news of the day is that from December 18 it will be forbidden to enter our Wonder of the World with non-reusable plastics.
the impressive magnetism of Machu Picchu can very often lead us to forget mundane things, but what we cannot forget is to protect this marvel, a World Heritage Site. And the first step is to reduce the garbage that accumulates daily in the Inca citadel as much as possible. The regulation reducing single-use plastic came into force with this objective in mind, promoting the responsible consumption of plastic by Government bodies.
The measure -approved on November 5- seeks to make visitors aware of the damage caused by plastic waste to our environment, especially in places and areas of high tourist traffic, such as Protected Areas and tourist attractions in Peru, including the fascinating Inca citadel. This measure will also contribute to looking after the ecosystems and biodiversity of these spaces that boast such an incomparable natural wealth.
Useful tips to reduce the use of plastic
- Use water canteens instead of disposable bottles.
- Take a good backpack: besides being easier than bags, they have greater capacity.
- If backpacks are not your thing, you can take a handbag or a cloth bag.
- Bring your food in reusable containers.
Reducing the use of plastic is very easy and its impact is enormously positive for the environment. It is up to each of us to preserve Peru's wonderful cultural heritage and to leave future generations a genuine testimony of world history.
