Moquegua
Initially, a mother church was built in Moquegua, known as Santa Catalina de Alejandria, which was hit by the constant earthquakes which beset the area. Finally, in August 1868, a terrible quake knocked it down and it could not be rebuilt. The temple of Santo Domingo became a parish church, one of the few in the world where the actual body of a saint can be worshipped: the remains of Saint Fortunata, exhumed from the Calepodio Catacombs, arrived in Moquegua in 1798.

The design is typical of this period of local architecture, with its ten windows with metal bars on the outside, as well as regional decorations and ornaments. It is a two-storey building, with a covered, long wooden balcony on the second floor. The second story is built from quincha (anti-seismic building material) and part of the floor from cut stone. The main entrance is made from limestone. The building currently houses the central post office.

It has a wide doorway that leads to a sunny, paved courtyard. Inside, there are rooms made from stone and quincha that feature gabled roofs, some of which are outstanding due to the careful work of the current proprietor, who has installed furniture that houses in Moqueguana would have had a century ago.
