Lambayeque is home to vestiges of a vast ancient realm, in the form of major archaeological remains that are well worth visiting. The rulers of this land governed northern Peru centuries ago, and evidence of their grandeur can be seen to this day in the form of the pyramids of Tucume and administrative centers built in the middle of the desert, as well as in fertile valleys.

The Lord of Sipan is one of the finest examples of the wealth of these ancient societies: this ruler’s tomb and funerary offerings are conserved at the Royal Tombs Museum. In addition, the region offers visitors other major sites to explore, including Sican and Chotuna, and it is home to other modern museums and their priceless collections.
