Calac, a descendant of Naylamp, established the Valley of the Pyramids around the year 700 AD. This imposing complex of 26 mud brick pyramids is surrounded by an extensive forest of carob trees, where the attractions include Huaca del Pueblo, Cerro La Raya and Huaca las Balsas.
As the heirs to an invaluable heritage, the local community where the archaeological complex is situated do everything they can to conserve their culture and traditions, offering visitors the chance to try their regional cooking, or to partipate in shamanic rituals.
