24 new Nazca geoglyphs are discovered by Japanese researchers

Even today, Peru´s cultural diversity continues to surprise the world. A group of Japanese archaeologists from the University of Yamagata has found 24 new geoglyphs in the Nazca desert, which could be considered among the oldest found in this location.

Lying one and a half kilometers north of the city of Nazca, these figures traced in the ground date back to the 3rd and 5th century BC, which makes them even older than the traditional Nazca Lines. The newly discovered geoglyphs include a figure that resembles a llama, in addition to other forms that are still hard to recognize.

According to the report published by the Asian research team, the largest geoglyph is approximately 65 feet long and appears to be shaped like an animal. The archaeologists discovered these new lines during their last expedition in Nazca last December and January.

This group of archaeologists from the University of Yamagata has been conducting research in Nazca since 2004. Since then, they have found a total of 41 figures in this area, which UNESCO has designated a World Heritage Site.
