Martin Chambi was a talented Peruvian photographer who sought to use his images to share the essence of indigenous culture. Around 1930, Chambi provided a window for the outside world into the extraordinary color of the native culture by depicting traditional Peru: the ancient cultures and customs that have intrigued so many tourists.

Chambi dedicated 40 years of his life to documenting his homeland and its people through a diverse array of images. The “Gran Chambi” exhibition of his work at the Palace of Tupac Yupanqui in Cusco displays a wide selection of photographs which catalogue a variety of traditions and ethnic groups, shedding light on the history of Peru.
