Peru is a country of countless experiences, with its traditions, culture, and destinations. Precisely, its landscapes not only serves as perfect postcard-worthy attractions for tourists but also provides a rich array of local flora and fauna. According to the Peruvian entity of the National Service of Natural Protected Areas by the State, this territory houses the greatest diversity of birds in the world, with a total of 1879 identified varieties.

This is one of the reasons why thousands of travelers arrive in the South American country to engage in nature-related activities, like bird watching. Statistics reveal that 25% of international visitors to the country actively take part in bird watching during their stay. In Peru, there are 117 endemic species, including the spatuletail hummingbird, mustached owl, ocher-fronted thornbird, yellow-faced parrotlet, Junin grebe, white-winged guan, among several others.

Furthermore, the country has a policy of protection for natural heritage, where a wide variety of endemic and migratory species inhabit. Throughout the Peruvian territory, we can find Natural Protected Areas, such as the Tambopata National Reserve in Madre de Dios department, the Historic Sanctuary of Bosque de Pómac in Lambayeque, the National Sanctuary of the Tumbes Mangroves in the region of the same name, the Cavinzas Islands and Palomino Islets in Callao, and more.

 

 

Peru has positioned itself as one of the main destinations for bird watching, a fact confirmed by the country's active participation in the Global Big Day records, always ranking among the top three. In 2023, it achieved the second position, with 1450 cataloged species.

The country continues to receive recognition for its natural destinations, gastronomy, historical sites, and local fauna. Definitely, Peru is one of the ideal travel destinations in 2024.
