The international lifestyle magazine, Men’s Journal, published an article about the Peruvian destination of the Rainbow Mountain Range of Palccoyo in Cusco. The publication describes the main attributes of the destination, its easy access, and stunning geography.
This exceptional coverage was done by Pam LeBlanc, an American travel journalist. She visited Cusco in December 2022 and had the opportunity to climb Palccoyo, where she experienced firsthand the natural and cultural richness of Peru.
The article narrates an adventure in this destination mainly, but also highlights other tourist attractions in Cusco. Likewise, the journalist describes her visit to Andahuaylillas, where she was impressed by the altar made of gold leaf, the shiny statues, and the colorful murals of the church of San Pedro Apostol.
She also wrote about Tipón and its irrigated terraces that can be climbed by visitors. On her way, she made a stop in Oropesa to taste freshly baked bread from an artisanal oven of Cusco. Finally, she visited Sacsayhuaman and the wonder of the world, Machu Picchu. Definitely, Cusco is a region that continues to surprise with its incredible destinations.
Palccoyo, the hidden mountains
Palccoyo is a group of three mounts in the Andes Mountains, it has almost 9000 hectares of beautiful Andean landscapes. It is located in the district of Checacupe in Cusco at an altitude of 4900 meters above sea level. Getting to it only requires a gentle one-hour walk with no steepness; it means a not-so-demanding alternative.
The phenomenon of the colored mountains is recent. Not long ago, Palccoyo was mostly a snow-covered mountain, but warm temperatures have revealed its colorful capes.
“At the top, I stood for an hour contemplating the view from all directions. The colors are amazing: stripes ranging from mustard yellow to brown and all tonalities in between”, relates the text about Pam LeBlanc's experience in Palccoyo.
The Rainbow Mountain Range in Palccoyo is one of those many natural wonders that can only be found in Peru. Every journey through this country is an adventure that guarantees unique experiences and emotions through historical, traditional, and cultural passages. Just choose the destination and pack your bags for the next trip!
