Peruvian gastronomy is experiencing an important moment, in that, for the second consecutive year, the Central de Virgilio Martínez restaurant has been chosen as the fourth best restaurant in the world on a list compiled by the British magazine ‘Restaurant’.

Additionally, on the list of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World, other important Peruvian eateries stand out, such as Maido de Mitsuharu Tsumara, which has received the Highest Climber Award, this year ranking #13. Astrid & Gastón, from renowned chef Gastón Acurio, also ranks #30 on the list.

In order to put together this selection, ‘Restaurant’ magazine brings together 1,000 members from the restaurant sector of the Diners Club Academy, including distinguished columnists, culinary critics, chefs, restaurateurs, and gastronomes.

This year the 50 best restaurants gala took place in New York City for the first time and is set to take place in Australia for the 2017 edition.

Some highlights

- The restaurant Central stands out for its exploration of Peruvian Andean ecosystems; the inclusion of new local ingredients makes its dishes some of the best in the world.

- The wonderful combination of Peru and Japan is reflected in dishes offered up by the restaurant Maido, which also uses ingredients from the Peruvian Amazon.
