The Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Commission (PROMPERÚ) reported that Peru was included in the select list of winners for the Infinite Discovery Awards 2018, being recognized as the top destination for birdwatching in the world.
The ceremony took place at the Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall in Shanghai, and the twelve winners were announced by Jonathan Scott, a leading wildlife photographer based in Kenya and host of the BBC's Big Cats series which follows the lives of felines in their natural habitat.
The panel of judges who drew up the list of twelve winners is made up of world-renowned travel experts, famous photographers from National Geographic magazine and wildlife protection experts.
Infinite Discovery is China’s biggest travel agency specializing in nature, and its annual list of winners is intended as a powerful tool to promote and provide effective information so that more travel enthusiasts can explore destinations with natural attractions.
While the list is designed to satisfy the needs of Chinese travelers who are interested in this kind of experience, it also allows more travelers to understand the infinite charm of visiting natural environments, as well as the rich and varied options that they offer.
BIRDWATCHING TOURIST PROFILE
According to the Birdwatcher Profile, drawn up by PROMPERÚ experts, the target market includes over 6 million people who travel abroad to pursue this activity.
It is estimated that 2.4 million are interested in traveling to Peru, which would generate profits of US$ 7.325 billion. Birdwatcher spendings fluctuate between US$ 2 795 and US$ 3 221, their stay ranges from 16 to 18 nights and 34% travel with a tourist package.
The various routes that our country has to offer are well positioned as a destination for bird watching. Proof of this is that 79% of the birdwatching tourists are able to appreciate the wide variety of species that can be found in Peru.
