Cusco, one of Peru's most magical destinations, has recently been highlighted by Condé Nast Traveler as one of the best places to celebrate the New Year. What are the reasons? Every December 31, the emblematic Plaza de Armas, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, becomes the epicenter of a unique celebration in the Peruvian Andes, full of live music, traditional dances and fireworks.
This spectacular festival attracts both locals and tourists from all over the world, who come together in the historic streets and alleys that surround the monumental area, where bars, clubs and restaurants offer typical dishes and events for the occasion.
There are two traditions that stand out in the publication, which are usually carried out in this destination: first, wearing yellow to attract good fortune and prosperity; and second, joining the crowd on a counterclockwise tour around the square. It is said that this ritual ensures a year full of luck.
The city of Cusco is a sacred destination, the epicenter of Inca culture, one of the most important in the history of America. In addition to the amazing New Year's experiences, it's a great place for many travelers to reenergize and start a great 2025.

The city before the sun goes down
Before starting the New Year, there are different activities that can be done during the previous days in the city of Cusco. Each of these moments stands out for the incredible beauty of the local landscapes, architecture, historical sites, local traditions and the warmth of the residents.
Among the places to visit are the Cathedral of the city of Cusco, with a Renaissance-style facade, here is one of the best expressions of colonial goldsmithing; Temple and Convent of Santo Domingo and Qoricancha, the construction of the church took place in 1633, and has a dome, a beautiful ashlar for the choir carved in cedar, and the walls are adorned with Sevillian tiles; Arco Santa Clara, this arch was built on one of the vertices of Plaza San Francisco, in the center of the city, and is a symbol of the Peru-Bolivia Confederation; Barrio de San Blas, also known as the "Artisans' Neighborhood", in this destination live several of the most famous artisans of Cusco; among others.
Each of these places, some with free access and others with reservation, is a path to the heart of Cusco, through the art of ancestral cultures, crops that have been cultivated for millennia on these lands, or also a way to learn about the evolution of local art, culture and syncretism.
