- The director of the memorable film 'Fitzcarraldo', which was filmed in the Peruvian Amazon, gave a master class at the National Library.
"Filming in Peru with Werner Herzog" is the name of the project that brought the renowned film director back to Peru, where he created the film ‘Fitzcarraldo’, shot in the Loreto jungle in the early 1980s.
With a full auditorium and to warm applause, Werner Herzog gave a master class in which he shared his vision and his way of making films in an enjoyable talk. Among the pieces of advice he gave to the audience was to encourage young filmmakers to be courageous and to dare to express their personal point of view in each film. He also confessed to feeling very comfortable in the Peruvian Amazon, because part of his soul has remained there forever.
Herzog's next stop is the Tambopata jungle in the Madre de Dios region, where he will guide a group of 48 young filmmakers from all around the world for ten days, accompanying them through the creative and production process of a short film.
“Supporting activities of this kind allows us to show Peru as a country of infinite locations that inspires filmmakers around the world. Today we have Werner Herzog accompanying a group of young filmmakers from 28 countries who, through their productions, will show a part of our country. This will put us in a showcase before audiences in distant lands, awakening their curiosity about all the wonders that Peru has to offer”, said Isabella Falco, PROMPERÚ's Director of Communications and Country Image.
The project "Filming in Peru with Werner Herzog" is produced by Black Factory Cinema in partnership with PROMPERÚ through Marca Perú, Inkaterra, Film in Peru, the Ministry of Culture and Assist Card.

Werner Herzog returns to the Peruvian jungle to oversee the creation of 48 young directors who will come for the first time to share with him the unique experience of making films steeped in adventure and jungle.
In 1972, ‘Aguirre, the Wrath of God’ marked the beginning of his cinematographic journey through the jungles and mountains of Peru. A journey that would last several decades and leave its mark on more than four important films in his screen career. ‘Fitzcarraldo’ has been one of the most memorable of his films made in our country.
In his films and his jungle prose, Werner Herzog reveals himself to be a passionate pursuer of dreams, something he shares with the majority of his most powerful characters.
