Praise for Kuélap continues to pour in. This time, one of the most important and iconic newspapers in the world, The New York Times, listed Kuélap as one of its 52 places to go in 2018.
One of the factors for choosing the destinations on the list is the novelty value they offer today. Kuélap is being considered as the alternative destination to Machu Picchu, since it now has a cable car that reaches the fortress and allows quick access. This has clearly won it a spot on the itineraries of many Peruvian and foreign travelers.
The publication also highlights the beauty of the fortress, its enviable view and geography. Kuélap has begun to attract the attention of the world as a result of the ongoing promotion of this destination, which has already been named as one of the coolest destinations by The Wall Street Journal in its latest list of the best destinations to visit in 2018. It also received the distinction of Best Far & Away - Overseas Attraction from the readers of National Geographic Traveller in the United Kingdom. The BBC also shot documentaries in the Amazonas region that reached an audience of millions.
In 2016, 586,479 of Peru's 3,744,461 foreign tourists came from the United States, an 8% increase over the same period the previous year and 16% of all foreign visitors. Also, U.S. tourists in the first nine months of 2017 totaled 494,931.
