Beyond Peru's borders, there are many people interested in the different cultures that inhabited and reigned in Inca lands. For all those who have not yet visited the country of the Chavin, Chimu and Nasca peoples, they will have the opportunity to appreciate a piece of the various pre-Inca cultures up close: the exhibition Machu Picchu and the golden empires of Peru, a collection of 192 objects of the Peruvian pre-Columbian historical heritage that will travel around the world, is already underway.
This exhibition, which contains gold objects from ancient Peru, will be the most important exhibition on Peruvian culture abroad. Everything will start on October 16, 2021. The first stop will be at the Boca Raton Museum of Art, in southern Florida (United States), and then it will go to France, among other destinations.
In this collection, you will be able to appreciate objects such as earrings of gold, shell and turquoise stone, and anthropomorphic ceramics, belonging to the Mochica culture; a metal armor dating from 1300 A.D. completely intact, legacy of the Chimu culture, among others.
One of the special sections will be an interactive production made so that visitors can feel that they are in Machu Picchu itself. In a room with screens, videos of the Inca and pre-Inca civilizations will be projected. Here, visitors -thanks to virtual glasses- will feel as if they were in the archaeological sanctuary of Cusco. They will even have technology to reproduce environmental sounds.
"We produce, promote and design exhibitions of valuable world treasures. We have been doing this for decades. We have worked on the exhibition of artifacts from the Titanic, Princess Diana's belongings, objects from the tomb of King Tutankhamen. This project, which has been more than six years in the making, has Machu Picchu as its centerpiece, but there is much more history to tell," explained Andrés Numhauser, international director of World Heritage Exhibitions.
However, this will not be the only thing about Peruvian culture that you will be able to appreciate in the exhibition. "The exhibition will be accompanied by many activities that will take place around the exhibition. For example, we plan to highlight the wonderful Peruvian gastronomy by inviting its most celebrated chefs once a month. There will also be conferences and artistic and folkloric presentations," added Numhauser.

Did you know…?
- That the exhibition is organized by Cityneon in alliance with Asociación Inkaterra, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the loan of objects from Museo Larco (Lima) and Museo de Sitio Manuel Chávez Ballón (Aguas Calientes, Cuzco) and the production of World Heritage Exhibitions.
- The collection also includes pieces made of silver, ceramics, utensils, looms, weapons, among others, from the Nazca, Mochica, Lambayeque, Chimu and Chavin cultures.
