During the opening ceremony of the 7th annual Fiexpo Latinoamérica 2015, the main trade show of the meetings and incentives market in Latin America and the Caribbean, Magali Silva Velarde-Álvarez, Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, stated that Peru has set the goal of becoming the regional leader in the meetings tourism sector, with the goal of reaching 100 international meetings in 2016. To meet this objective, she said that work is being done to develop bids for meetings alongside the respective public or private organizations that form part of the community.
The professionalism with which bids for organizing events were planned has brought good results, as is shown by the fact Peru climbed four spots in the ICCA’s 2014 ranking. It also jumped up 15 spots in the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index to 58th. Its growing infrastructure, demand and services for meetings, incentives, conferences and events tourism is considered crucial for reaching those positions.
Meetings market

Cusco was ranked for the first time, with ten international meetings hosted, and Arequipa was on the list for the second straight year with five meetings.
In 2014, 3,214,934 international tourists came to Peru. According to the Foreign Tourist Profile, 90,401 tourists came to Peru for the purpose of attending seminars, congresses, conventions and conferences.
