The well-known Masterchef UK program chose the city of Lima as the overseas venue for the final stage of the 2018 season. Peru was selected for its diverse culinary history, which was shared on BBC One with about 6.5 million Britons on the evening of Wednesday April 11, reported PROMPERÚ.
The episode shows the adventure that the finalists, Alex, David, Kenny and Nawamin, experienced in our country, discovering the essence of local food with Gastón Acurio; and immersing themselves in the Lima culinary scene. They then applied what they learned by participating in the service at one of the best restaurants in the world, Virgilio Martínez’s Central.
The production of MasterChef UK highlighted the more than 5,000 years of culinary history that our country has, as well as the richness of our country and the cultural diversity that provides an explosion of flavors. The contestants were also impressed by the quality and size of the Peruvian food products.
According to the travel site Travelbag, searches for holiday packages to Peru increased by 1.204% in the days after the show was aired. Isabella Falco, the PROMPERÚ Communications and Country Image Director, highlighted the fact that our cuisine continues to consolidate its place as a mobilizing influence on travel and is a point of reference in the culinary world.
It is important to mention that Peruvian cuisine has made a big impact on the British food scene in recent years, this being reflected in the opening of several restaurants such as LIMA, Coya, Ceviche and Andina, and through which the British have been introduced to iconic Peruvian dishes and our superfoods.
It should be noted that Peru received a total of 3,627,283 international tourist arrivals during the period from January to November 2017, representing a 6% growth over the same period in 2016. 65,419 of these tourists hailed from the United Kingdom.
According to PROMPERÚ’s Foreign Tourist Profile, British tourists spent an average of US$ 1824 during their stay in Peru (more than double the overall average of US$ 964).
