Peru has set out on its path towards change. It will now become a Smart Tourism Destination, maximizing the use of technology and innovative solutions for the reactivation of the tourism sector, with the sole objective of providing the best services to visitors, tourists and travelers, both domestic and foreign.
Now, the South American country will have access to first level information and will be able to work together with the Sociedad Mercantil Estatal, initially in the development of a pilot plan that will set a roadmap for a period of three years.
Peru at the top
The good news does not stop there, since in addition to soon becoming a Smart Tourism Destination, the country of the Incas managed—for the third time—to become the country with the most birds recorded in a single day. This is part of Global Big Day (GBD) 2021, the largest and most important international bird watching event.
This recognition was achieved after 1,351 species were recorded. Cusco was the region with the most bird sightings (669), followed by Madre de Dios (477), San Martín (456) and Loreto (405). In addition, more than 2,000 sites of interest for bird watching were identified.

And that's not all. In addition, Peru—through the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ)—is already a member of the Word Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) as a Destination Partner.
WTTC is the only forum representing the private sector worldwide. Its activities include research on the economic and social impact of tourism and the organization of global and regional meetings focused on the development of this industry.

Currently, there are more than 250 destinations that are part of the Smart Tourism Destination Network (Red de Destino Turísticos Inteligentes), such as the Spanish cities of Andalusia, Asturias and the Basque Country, as well as the Colombian city of Medellin, among others.
