Peru is once again in the spotlight thanks to being the filming location for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the latest installment of the popular Transformers fiction saga. This fact reaffirms Peru's importance as a tourist, historical, and cultural destination.
The Paramount Pictures team chose the regions of Cusco and San Martin for the shooting of the mentioned film. Steven Caple Jr., director of the movie, highlighted the majesty of these Peruvian destinations during filming and the spiritual connection that is felt in each of them.
About San Martin
San Martin is one of the regions located in the Peruvian Amazon. Among its natural treasures stand out the Alto Shilcayo, famous for its viewpoint of the same name, from where you can appreciate the entire city of Tarapoto.
Other tourist attractions in the area include the La Unión waterfalls, where visitors swim and refresh themselves from the intense Tarapoto heat, and the district of Shapaja, famous for its palm trees of the same name, which provide edible fruits to the locals, and their leaves are so resistant that they are used for house roofing.
It is worth mentioning that one of the most visited destinations in the San Martin region is the Ahuashiyacu Waterfall, a spectacular 40-meter waterfall surrounded by abundant plants and wildlife, located just a few minutes from the city of Tarapoto.
About Cusco
Cusco is characterized precisely by its majestic landscapes and its ancient culture. Therefore, it is not surprising that it has been chosen as one of the filming locations.
In every corner of the city of Cusco, we can see and feel the history of its ancestors. The Inka constructions and those from the viceregal era converge in this city, offering visitors a synchronic spectacle worthy of admiration.
An activity that stands out in this area is textiles, and the town of Chinchero is the best representative of it. There, high-quality garments are made, and tourists are introduced to the traditional production process for which Chinchero is famous.
Among the most visited archaeological sites is the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Complex, admired for the precision of the engineering used to place each of its large stone blocks; Wiñayhuayna on the Inka Trail, famous for its colorful orchids and its abundance of terraces for agriculture; and finally, Machupicchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, which is a masterpiece of art, architecture, and engineering in perfect harmony with nature and is the most important legacy of the Inka civilization to humanity.
Finally, among the most visited tourist destinations in Cusco, we have the Maras Salt Mines, which has about 3000 natural salt pools that supply the entire region, and Abra Malaga, a pass between the Veronica snow-capped mountain and the edge of the Cusco jungle, famous for hosting a great variety of native birds.
In this way, Peru is becoming an attractive destination for film locations thanks to the infinite natural and urban landscapes, as well as the variety of its microclimates.
