Can you imagine walking in the middle of nature and discovering monuments with human shapes, surfing on the waves of the Pacific Ocean or flying over the coastal sky with a privileged view of the city? Lima not only offers you history and culture at every step, but also invites you to live experiences full of action and adventure that will make your trip unforgettable.

There are many and varied alternatives to release a bit of adrenaline. If you want to get yourself to the max, you just need a little preparation and all the attitude to face the challenge. Here are some proposals that combine adventure, pleasure and impressive landscapes.

Surf in the Pacific Ocean

Being the only South American capital with access to the sea, Lima is home to a circuit of beaches called the Costa Verde, whose high waves invite surfers to have a fun time. Also, 40 km south of the city there are resorts such as Punta Hermosa, San Bartolo, Señoritas and Caballeros, where national and world surf championships are held, attended by the best surfers in the planet. The waves on these beaches can reach three meters in height, although they are also suitable for beginners.

Thanks to the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, the capital of Peru has positioned as one of the greatest surfing destinations worldwide, so if you are a lover of this sport, come and let yourself be conquered by one of the most valuable treasures it has: its waves.

Paragliding on the Costa Verde

One of the most visited tourist attractions in Lima is its boardwalk; a place that borders the cliffs of the Costa Verde and whose privileged view of the immense bay is a reason to visit for thousands of tourists. Many of them arrive at the Parapuerto located in the Raimondi Park to fly over the city and feel the pure adrenaline from the heights.

The flight has an approximate cost of 240 soles ($ 70) and the passenger is accompanied by a qualified instructor who is in charge of driving the paramotor. The air ride goes through the beaches and the most visited places in the Miraflores district. On a clear day, you can appreciate much of the city of Lima and the imposing Andean mountains that extend beyond the horizon.

Trekking on the mountains

Lima is not only home to beaches and a privileged coast, but also to a mountain range that is perfect for hiking trails in the middle of mountains, forests, lagoons and archaeological remains. If you like adventure, walking in the open air and being in permanent contact with nature, there are many alternatives for you to enjoy this activity.

There are many places where you can trek in Lima. Marcahuasi, for example, located just three hours from the city, is surrounded by forests of stones with human shapes. There is also The Yuracochas, known as "El Vinicunca Limeño", for its resemblance to the Mountain of the Seven Colors in Cusco. It is a chain of mountains located at almost 5,000 meters above sea level, where the walk is not only a challenge for the lungs but also a delight for the eyes. On the other hand, you have Lomas de Lúcumo, a perfect place for short tours amidst abundant vegetation, where the green color mixes with the yellow of the Flor de Amancaes, which transforms the landscape into an ecological paradise. Finally, we have the Songos hamlet, located in the province of Huarochirí, which is distinguished by its stone slides where nature, adventure and fun mix.

Rafting in Lunahuaná

Rafting on the Cañete River is one of the most extreme and requested activities by all those who arrive in the town of Lunahuaná, three hours southeast of Lima. This sport can be practiced all year round, but you have to keep in mind the level of difficulty that varies according to the season; during May and October, the river flow is at a low level, so it is recommended for people with little experience. During November and April, acquires greater volume and strength, ideal for more experienced navigators.

In general, this activity does not represent greater danger or difficulty, so those who want to experience this adventure sport only need to be willing to get wet.

Rappel in the Autisha canyon

There are different places in Lima where you can practice this sport, which consists of descending, with the help of resistant ropes, by rocky and vertical walls. The Autisha canyon, in the Santa Eulalia valley, famous for being the deepest in Lima, is one of the most visited points for rappelling in Peru. It is a great experience in which you will move between surfaces up to 200 meters high, narrow tunnels and dark caves, until you reach an impressive underground lagoon. It is a challenge not suitable for any adventurer.

Another ideal destination to practice this sport is Lomas de Lúcumo. After a two-hour walk from the town of Quebrada Verde, you can reach the area of the cliffs where this activity begins with a spectacular view of the Lurín valley.
