Anniversary of the Paracas National Reserve

In the provinces of Pisco and Ica, which belong to the region that shares the same name as the latter, there is a marine and scenic paradise of great importance to the Peruvian ecosystem: the Paracas National Reserve. It is home to unique species such as the Humboldt Penguin and extensive families of sea lions that roar every time visitors come to see them.

Since 1975, every September 25th, the Paracas National Reserve celebrates another year of existence. This natural area, protected by the state, serves the purpose of preserving the marine biodiversity of this zone along the Peruvian coast. Therefore, it is important to highlight and celebrate its functions. On this date, it receives the recognition it deserves, and what better way to honor it than by visiting its confines.

Within its more than 335 000 hectares that make up this National Reserve, not only is the life of over 1500 animal species celebrated and preserved (including turtles, whales, otters, among others), but it also houses the archaeological heritage of the nation. In addition to witnessing nature in its full splendor, it is also possible to visit the geoglyphs of the Nasca Desert, where The Candelabro stands out, which can be best appreciated from the waters of Ica.

Another alternative to learn more within the Paracas National Reserve is to visit the Julio C. Tello Museum. This space, which was awarded the Best New Museum in Latin America by the Leading Culture Destinations Awards in 2018, showcases over a hundred artifacts from the Paracas culture dating from 700 BC to AD 200. Among them are textiles, weapons, tools, ceramics, and beautiful funerary bundles that were used to wrap the bodies of their ancestors.

The Paracas National Reserve is the preferred tourist destination and is only a 5-hour drive from Lima, the capital of Peru. In addition to boat trips and visits to cultural sites, the reserve also features beautiful beaches where you can relax as if in the best paradisiacal destinations.
