Traveling to Peru is an experience to remember, not only for its impressive destinations, but also for its incredible biodiversity. It is thanks -in part- to these characteristics that the country has been recognized internationally on several occasions throughout 2022. In this context, 9 national destinations, including 8 Natural Protected Areas, were chosen to participate in the Green Destinations People's Choice Awards 2023 owing to the commitment of Peruvians with the good practices of sustainable tourism and care for the environment.
These attractions are:

- Colca Valley & Valley of the Volcanoes (Arequipa)
- Bahuaja Sonene National Park (Madre de Dios & Puno)
- Manu National Park (Madre de Dios)
- Tingo Maria National Park (Huanuco)
- Paracas National Reserve (Ica)
- Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (Loreto)
- Tambopata National Reserve (Madre de Dios)
- Bosque de Pomac Historic Sanctuary (Lambayeque)

Peru in the Green Destinations Story Awards 2023
National destinations such as Bosque de Pomac Historic Sanctuary (Lambayeque) and Tingo Maria National Park (Huanuco) were selected in the Top 100 Stories list to participate in the Green Destinations Story Awards 2023. The awards ceremony will be held on March 7, 2023, and will take place at ITB Berlin, the world's leading tourism industry trade fair.
Peru, an ecological wonder
According to the national institution of the National Council of Science, Technology and Technological Innovation, Peru is the eighth country in the world in number of species. This characteristic of the country is reflected in the growth of important cultural manifestations through biodiversity, as well as in its economic development.
For example, in the Bosque de Pomac Historical Sanctuary, more than 95 species of birds can be found, many of them endemic, which coexist in a dry ecosystem and ideal for the preservation of carob trees; in the Bahuaja Sonene National Park, unique elements for the country are protected, such as the tropical humid savannah (Pampas del Heath); or in the Paracas National Reserve, the marine-coastal ecosystems, which are indispensable for the conservation of different species, are also being protected.
