Cusco, one of the most magical destinations in Peru, has recently been highlighted by Condé Nast Traveler as one of the best places to celebrate New Year's. What are the reasons? Every December 31st, the iconic Plaza de Armas (Main Square), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, becomes the epicenter of a unique celebration in the Peruvian Andes, filled with live music, traditional dances, and fireworks.
This spectacular party attracts both locals from Cusco and tourists from all over the world, who come together in the historic streets and alleys surrounding the monumental area, where bars, clubs, and restaurants offer typical dishes and events for the occasion.
There are two traditions highlighted by the publication that are usually carried out in this destination: first, to dress in yellow to attract good fortune and prosperity; and second, to join the crowd in a counterclockwise procession around the square. It is said that this ritual ensures a year full of luck.

The city before the sun sets
Before starting the New Year, there are different activities that can be carried out during the days leading up to it in the city of Cusco. Each of these moments stands out for the incredible beauty of the local landscapes, architecture, historical sites, local traditions, and the warmth of the residents.
Among the places to visit are the Cathedral of the city of Cusco, with a Renaissance-style facade, here you can find one of the best expressions of colonial goldsmithing; Temple and Convent of Santo Domingo and Qoricancha, the construction of the church took place in 1633, and it features a dome, a beautiful choir seating carved in cedar, and the walls are adorned with Sevillian tiles; Santa Clara Arch, this arch was built at one of the corners of San Francisco Square, in the center of the city, and is a symbol of the Peru-Bolivia Confederation; San Blas neighborhood, also known as the "Neighborhood of the artisans", in this destination live several of the most famous artisans of Cusco; among others.
Each of these places, some with free access and others by reservation, is a path to the heart of Cusco, through the art of ancestral cultures, crops that have been in these lands for millennia, or also a way to learn about the evolution of local art, culture, and syncretism.
