An immersive journey into Peruvian culture captivates families at a premier U.S. museum
Peru is the star of the Take Me There: Peru exhibition at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis—the largest children’s museum in the United States. This innovative display invites visitors to dive into the country’s vibrant cultural heritage through an experience designed to spark curiosity in explorers of all ages.
Officially launched during the 2024 APEC Summit, this exhibition offers an immersive journey through the heart of the country, where families and visitors can discover daily life in Peru through interactive spaces. Divided into various themed areas, the exhibit recreates settings from the Amazon, the Andes, and the coast, allowing guests to explore everything from homes and schools to local markets, indigenous languages, and the cultural traditions that reflect the country’s vast diversity.
Every day features dynamic activities that turn each visit into a true sensory experience: from interacting with alpacas to discovering the biodiversity of the Amazon. Additionally, visitors can enjoy traditional music and dances such as huayno and festejo.

The exhibit also features a recreation of the actual home of Estudio Tawa creators, Oscar Barriga and Virginia Borja, renowned for bringing the Ayar: Legend of the inkas saga to life. This space invites visitors into a world where imagination and Andean tradition seamlessly intertwine
The experience is led by Killary, the directors' daughter, who guides guests through her daily life while sharing Peruvian stories, myths, and customs. This personal approach offers a contemporary, family-centered look at the culture—perfect for those who want to understand the country beyond its landscapes.
The journey is fully interactive, featuring puzzles inspired by ancient legends and the very games Killary grew up playing. Every activity is designed to move beyond simple observation, inviting visitors to jump in and truly live the culture.
One of the standout moments is the immersive projection, where an ancient Peruvian myth comes to life through animations crafted by artists from the Arequipa region in southern Peru. This blend of technology, art, and tradition transforms the experience into a sensory voyage that bridges the past and the present.
